Cause and Effect Analysis

I read "Why the M Word Matters To Me" by Andrew Sullivan In this essay it discusses the importance of marriage and being gay. First, he explains what his childhood and teenage years were like and how he struggled with his sexuality, how he didn't get the chance to learn how to be in a relationship during his teenage years like most of his peers did. The cause of this was being raised in a conservative, christian home with a focus on marriage and thus had the belief that marriage wasn't possible for him. The effect was isolation throughout his teenage years and struggling with relationships through his twenties and thirties. He explains the cause and the effect and then states why he thinks things should be different.

Chapter 8

Anglo vs. Chicano: Why? By: Arthur L. Campa This is a good comparison-contrast essay and illustrates how to organize a comparison-contrast paper very well. I personally didn't find this piece very interesting or fun to read but, it was informative. The organization of the piece was very obvious and I can assume it was formally outlined beforehand. It gave several situations in which the two peoples differ and then gave reasoning why, as well as showing some similarities. It also was made more credible by using a lot of historical reference.

Post 1 - My Previous Experience With Reading and Writing

I developed a preference for reading fairly early on and I've been reading like crazy ever since. As soon as I learned how to read I've filled my summers with books. During my high school years I read at least five books a week, if not one every day. I still love reading but unfortunately I don't have the same amount of free time that I used to have and can't read as much as I would like. Writing on the other hand for me is a completely different story. I've always struggled with writing even though I read so much. The only writing I've done is school assignments and anything else that I couldn't avoid, although I attempted to write a book sophomore year of high school and that didn't get very far.
